RetCon 2019 F.A.Q.

What is RetCon?

RetCon is the only Transformers convention in the Nordic Region.

Where and when does RetCon2019 take place?

28 September at Quality Hotel Grand in Borås.

Why do you use pre-registration?

RetCon is run by TF fans, for TF fans. Our goal is to be a place for the community to come together. All of the work team RetCon put into the convention is done in our spare time and we don’t get any monetary contibutions from sponsors. All the money we get from the pre-registration are used to make RetCon as good as possible for the attendees.

How much does it cost to attend RetCon?

Adults pay 299 SEK. One child under the age of 12, if accompanied by an adult, is free. (If you are a sole adult with two kids under 12, the second child pays 299 SEK.)
Please note that all tickets are now sold out.

What do I get as an attendee?

Each attendee gets an attendee-kit. The content of the kit is not finalized yet, but so far it includes:

  • A RetCon-magazine (this year with an exclusive comic story written by Simon Furman).
  • A TF-comic from either IDW or DW.
  • Faction stickers from Toyhax/Reprolabels
  • Vouchers for the following online stores – Gerrutcamaro, AF24 and TFS-express.
  • The first 20 pre-registrants also get a G.I.Joe comic and and Transformers: The Card Game booster pack.

Do you have any special guests?

Well, yes. This year both Simon Furman and Jack Lawrence will be at RetCon. Simon has been one of the most influential people working on Transformers for the past 35 years. He will be at RetCon signing Ades Medias new Swedish Hardcover of the Matrix Quest (he will of course sign other stuff as well). Jack was the artist on the comic book Transformers: Lost Light from IDW. Just as Simon, he will be signing stuff, but it is also possible for you to order commissions from him – check out the information at the end of this FAQ.

Will there be any panels at RetCon?

Both Jack and Simon will have a panel each. Jack´s will focus on drawing Transformer and Simon’s will focus on The Matrix Quest. The will of course be room for questions from the audience. There will also be a third panel. Our own Martin Lund will once again have one of his popular TF collector’s panels. Peter Casselö will tell the story of how they got Erector elected into the Transformers Hall of Fame.

Are there any vendors at RetCon?

RetCon is the biggest market for TF-related stuff in the Nordic region. This year there will be vendors on site with at least 1200 TF-figures and hundreds of TF-comics.

Will there be any competitions at RetCon?

We try to have as much activities at RetCon as possible, and just like previous years, we will have a games table this year as well. There will be competitions for both the children and the adults, with prizes donated from Hasbro Nordic, Gerrutcamaro, TFS-express among others. The children who attend RetCon never go home empty handed. We will also have a kids table with a slew of TF-figures for play and stations for playing TF-video games.

I heard something about a charity auction, which charity do that benefit?

We have a charity auction each year. Last year we raised 10000 SEK for the Child Cancer Foundation. This year the money will go to the Heart-Lung Foundation.

When I arrive at the hotel, where can I collect my RetCon-pass and attendee-kit?

Take the elevator up to the third floor. Registration will be open on Friday 27 September between 18:00 and 21:00, and from 08:00 and onwards on the 28th of September. All you have to do is walk up to the registration desk and tell us your name – you will then get your pass, your attendee kit, the exclusive figure (if you have booked one of those), the Matrix Quest-book (if you have booked one of those). On the evening of the 27th and between 08:00 – 10:30 on the 28th you will find the registration in the area outside the convention hall. From 10:30 and onwards the registration desk will be positioned inside the convention hall.

What are the main hours for RetCon?

The main hall opens at 10:00 and closes around 18:30

Are there any activities for Saturday evening?

Absolutely. The doors for the main hall open again at around 20:30 for our evening festivities, which the special guests usually also attend. Like always there will be a quiz.

Does anything happen at the Friday evening as well?

This year Gustaf Segerhammar will be organizing a Transformers: The Card Game tournament. Registration for taking part in the tournament starts around 18:00 on floor 3. There will also be a surprise screening of a special project!

I will not stay at the hotel, where can I get something to eat?

The hotel has a brunch between 11:00 and 14:00 which is open for everyone. Also, the hotel is smack in the middle of downtown Borås, and there are a lot of places to eat just around the corner.
